The Spirit Of Gambo
According to critics, exuberant playing pleasure, passion and musical craftsmanship are the strength of The Spirit of Gambo. Our repertoire includes music by Dowland, Purcell, Bach and others. The emotional charge of the music and our intimate music making appear to be able to move the audience. The Spirit of Gambo is the new standard in performing consort music.
The ensemble is the initiative of Freek Borstlap and Gesina Liedmeier. The other two regular players are Ivanka Neeleman and Thomas Baeté.
The Spirit of Gambo plays on beautiful violas da gamba, built especially for the ensemble by Gesina Liedmeier. The painted instruments and the sculpted animal heads are a feast for the eye and ear.
In April 2015 the ensemble had a successful live performance at Podium Witteman. For the CD ‘Jenkins consort music of four parts’ The Spirit of Gambo received the highest award: a Diapason d’ Or. The Spirit of Gambo is a guest at international festivals and made various CDs, including a recording with the soprano Claron McFadden (The Silver Swan) and a CD with instrumental music by Christopher Tye.
