La Nébuleuse

Founded in 2021 by Gabriel Rignol, the ensemble La Nébuleuse came together for the first time around Claudio Monteverdi’s famous Combat of Tancredi and Clorinda with the founding desire to forge a strong link between the musicians and to break down the barrier between singers, violins, and continuo. This program, taking the listener on a journey to the Italy of the early 17th century, was created and recorded at the Trinity Chapel in Lyon on May 26, 2021, and marked the beginning of the human and musical adventure of the ensemble La Nébuleuse.

The ensemble then reunited, thanks to the support of the National Superior Conservatory of Lyon, for a residency from October 11 to 17, 2021, at the Cultural Meeting Center of the Phare (Brittany) around a large-scale project focused on major sacred works by Marc Antoine Charpentier (Miserere and Litanies to the Virgin). This residency was full of experiences and concerts in unusual places, such as the Douarnenez port museum, and also led to a complete recording with students from the University of Brest. It was also a first experience of mediation for the ensemble, a sharing process that has since become one of the strong axes of the ensemble’s policy.

In May and June 2022, the ensemble created two new programs, firstly “Concert for the King’s Chamber” on May 4 at the Trinity Chapel in Lyon, then “Small motets by Marc-Antoine Charpentier” on May 25 at the Saint-Louis Saint-Bruno chapel in Lyon, and completed the creation of the “Voyage de Rome” initiated at the Phare, with the Grand Organ of Charolles on June 3.

In January 2023, winner of the call for projects for the 20th anniversary of Harmonia Sacra, the ensemble is in creative residence in Valenciennes, to continue the work on the representative genre that had begun with the Combat of Tancredi and Clorinda in 2020. This constituted the culmination of a research and recreation process around a work, Dido Furens by Domenico Mazzocchi, and a unique way of telling a story, as was done in 17th century Italy. The public creation of this program will take place within the Embaroquement Immédiat festival on May 6, 2023, in Valenciennes.

In the summer of 2023, the ensemble will have the opportunity to come together twice, the first time in July for a residency at the Cité de la voix in Vézelay, and the second time in Poland within the Muzyka w Raju festival in Paradyż, Kościół pw. Wniebowzięcia NMP i św. Marcina.
